This is from the movie Road Trip. This particular scene captures the freedom you feel while on the road. These guys are singing the song I Wanna Rock, and they really seem to have lost any inhibition about just acting crazy for a little while. I have been on road trips where I feel the same way and have sung along as loud as I can to random classics. In this movie they have stolen a bus to try and go rescue a dirty video before it reaches the main character's girlfriend. It is a college trip to say the least and I could only hope to one day have some of the experiences they did in this movie. This scene captures what a road trip is in American culture, they set out for one purpose, but ended up finding so many different things along the way. It seems like no matter what you set off to do in a road trip, unexpected experiences are at every rest stop.

  1. This is a great clip for what goes on a road trip with your buddies. Most of the time we are not in a school bus, but we still sing with the same passion. Most of the time when guys go on road trips we use it as an excuse to lots of thing we normaly wouldnt do. That is the beauty of a road trip, you can get away with a lot of stuff.

  2. This movie is also what I first thought of when thinking of the "road trip" that would sum up the overall thoughts of americans. In this clip everyone who went on this road trip are just having a blast. Kyle (DJ Qualls) is the nerdy guy who they took advantage of and took his car for the road trip. It ended up being blown up and destroyed to his horror but he is still rocking out. Josh, who is the protagonist, sent a sex tape with him and some other girl, to his girlfriend in Austin, some hundreds of miles away. He is also risking missing a final exam at his college in Ithaca. Even with all this stress he is having a blast on the trip. Many spontaneous things happen on their journey and on the way there they worry about nothing but having a good time, and of course to get there on time to intercept the tape sent accidentally. On the way there they each learn alot about life and about themselves. This is truly the classic definition of an american road trip.

  3. This scene is the best representation for the overall American point of view because it personifies freedom. I think that Americans view a road trip as an escape from what they do in their lives, but even though Josh sent a sex tape to his girl friend and they are on a road trip the looming fear of losing the girl he cheated on because of his friend's stupidity. These friends are in a stolen bus, on the open road, singing and just having fun. Here the drama that motivates the plot of the film is forgotten and a fun-spirited carefree attitude takes over, even inspiring the audience to sing along.

  4. I agree with everyone. This scene does it all.
Americans perceive a road trip as being a bonding between friends (or family.)
Singing obnoxiously to some of your favorite songs while cruising the open road symbolizes the sense of freedom and lack of inhibition that often characterize the definition of a road trip. For many Americans, this may even be the reason to take a road trip.
The characters are all young. Youth spontaneity is also often characterized with the western view of a road trip.
