From Point A to B
The title above more or less describes the way that I conduct a road trip. This is very different than the way Sal sets out on his road trip. The idea of hitch-hiking my way out West seem to me like a way to waste a lot of time for very minimal gain. I do understand the idea of enjoying you time on the road and the process of getting the your destination is suppose to be half the fun, but for me I just want to get to where I'm going. I share the same sentiment of Sal when he says " ...didn't give a damn, just as long as I'd be in Chicago tomorrow."--pg. 11

I agree with John about the way I would start a road trip, but I also understand why Sal began the way that he did as well. Even though it may seem like there was minimal gain through him beginning the trip by hitch-hiking, I think that this is just part of the way that Sal is wired. I believe that later in the story as we uncover more about his personality, we will begin to uncover that there was actually no other way for him to start his road trip. If it wasn't for this start, the trip could have taken a whole different path and in the end he might not have learned the things that he will. "Somewhere along the line I knew there'd be girls, visions, everything; somewhere along the line the pearl would be handed to me." Chapter 1. I think what the reader should uncover from this quote is that there are many different ways to go about the trip and Sal chose his own way. He will reach an end and when he does his "pearl" or lesson learned will be attained.
